Wow, what a weekend I just had. I am so fortunate to be surrounded by beautiful people that love life and music as much as I do. I went to a wedding on Saturday and watched two amazing woman who have shared their love together for 10 years make a commitment to share the rest of their life together. The wedding venue was amazing, the food was fabulous, the heat was scorching and the bridesmaids were gorgeous.
On Sunday I attended a Woodstock 50 year anniversary celebration. Several local bands collaborated to make the experience as authentic as possible with each playing different songs from Woodstock. Many of us dressed the part and there was a Costume contest for the best dressed. Or maybe I should say Hippest dressed.
I was told that I was tied for second place, but in my opinion, they chose the two winners correctly. Not only did they dress the part, they stayed front and center and danced for the whole four hour event. They truly embodied what it would have been like at Woodstock.
After the music stopped and the show was over, one of the winners, (she looked so much like Janice Joplin, I actually had to look twice) got on stage to speak. She told of living in New York at the time of Woodstock but not being in attendance because of just having her first child.
She also talked about how, during those days NY was much different than it is now. She said you could walk the streets without worrying and people still spoke to each other. Life then really was about love and peace, But what she said next really blew my mind. This Janice Joplin looking, hippie momma who I just watched dance for 4 hours, told us that she still felt like she was in her 20’s, because she has always lived her life in celebration. She danced and sang and enjoyed life and look at her now 72 years old and still dancing and loving life.
WHAT? Did I just hear her say she was 72? My mind was truly blown. It gave me so much inspiration. I mean, I have 19 years to go before I am even her age. Do you know how much I can accomplish in 19 years? Not only that, but think about how much dancing I still have left in me.
My take away from this weekend is this. Do what you love, make memories, get married, get dressed up, be a hippie and above all else DANCE!
This weeks challenge is a fun one. Put on some music and dance. Close your eyes and just let the music take over. Let it wash away all the bad you are feeling, the negative vibes that have been holding you down. Just let go. Dance in your house, in your car, in the streets. Wherever you hear music, just dance.
Send some clips of you dancing on our facebook page, Conquer On or leave comments here telling us how dancing made you feel.
Until next week,
Face it…….Challenge it……Conquer it………
