Everyone who celebrates Easter should know what the Passover means. If you don’t, I will give you a brief history.
In the day of Moses, the Israelites were enslaved by the Egyptians. God told Moses to tell the Pharaoh to let his people go. The Pharaoh refused so God brought plague after plague down on the Egyptian people to try to convince the Pharaoh to change his mind.
The tenth plague was the worst and the last. God assured Moses that with this final plague his people would not only be freed but ran out of Egypt. The final plague was the death of every first born Egyptian child, human and animal.
In order to separate the Israel families from the Egyptian ones God instructed the Israelites to slaughter a perfect lamb and place it’s blood on their door in a specific way. He also told them to then roast the lamb in a specific way, dress a specific way to eat it and forever honor the time in a celebration we now call the Passover. Exodus 12:1-11
When the Angel of death came by, every house that was marked by the blood of the lamb was spared from losing their first born. From what we have been taught, only the Israelites heeded the warning and obeyed this command.
But what if?
What if an Egyptian neighbor, who was tired from the previous nine plagues, asked what was going on? What if that Israelite told him about the Angel of Death coming and the only way to be saved was by killing a Lamb and spreading it’s blood on the door?
What if that Egyptian said “Look, I don’t want my son to die? If I put blood on my house will the Lamb protect me too?” What do you think would have happened. Do you think the Angel of Death would have passed through a door he has been told not to pass through because the family inside was different than he was expecting?
Is it not possible that an outsider could have faith so strong after seeing destruction upon destruction plague everyone around him that he say’s “I don’t know what you have, but I want it to. I want that protection around me and my family” Does the bible not tell us If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you can move mountains? Matthew 17:20
Who gets to decide who has that faith or not? Who tells the Lamb of God who he can and can’t save. From my teaching growing up that was God’s job. He put down a law. Cover yourself and your house with the blood of a Lamb and you will be saved. I believe to this day, anyone who covers themselves with the Blood of the Lamb will be saved. John 3:16 is the final word. Whosoever believeth in him shall not parish, but have ever lasting life.
Don’t ever let someone tell you because you are an outsider or different than what they believe you should be, that blood you have covered yourself doesn’t matter. If you believe that Jesus is the Son of God, if you have covered yourself with the Blood that he shed when he died on the Cross, then you too shall be passed over. You will not be killed when the Angel of Death comes to call because I do not believe God is a liar.
You, whoever you are reading this, have just as much of an opportunity for Salvation as I do. Jesus was the ultimate conqueror and He conquered death so we wouldn’t have to.
Happy Easter and thank you God for allowing me to cover myself with the blood of the Lamb so I may be passed over.
